I'm new here, trying my hand at the 17 Day Diet challenge after seeing Dr. Phil -- I NEED to get motivated NOW because I need to get healthy and I don't like the way I feel about myself. I'm really hoping accomplishing something so huge like weightloss and then maintaining it will make me feel good about myself when I look in the mirror. My whole family has always been over weight and my dad was diagnosed with diabetes in 2008. He is very overweight and has a lot of medical problems. I haven't always been over weight until a few years ago and seeing him really makes me want to change my life, get healthy so I don't become him. I'm really hoping that this will inspire him to want to get healthy, too. I wish everyone the best of luck and I'm here to give and recieve support so I'm looking forward to it : )

HI THERE... WE CAN DO THIS.. TELL YOUR DAD (IM DIABETIC ALSO) THAT HE REALLY NEEDS TO TRY, I THOUGHT I WAS OK TO FIND OUT MY KIDNEYS ARE FAILING... I CANT GET ON THE TRANSPLANT LIST DUE TO WEIGHT... HE DOESNT WANT THAT... GET HIM ON SITE WE CAN ALL WORK TOGETHER... GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH
Tetty,
Thank you so much. You're right, he needs to TRY. But he doesn't seem to want to. I don't know why that is but I do wish you even better luck and I hope everything works out for you.
Amanda, I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Everyone can do this! The book is so simple to follow and guides you every step of the way. As a diabetic myself and 8 days into the diet I have noticed a significant reduction in blood glucose, your dad could learn a thing or two from that the way it sounds. Diabetes unfortunately contributes to other complications but if controlled properly people can live healthy lives. Hopefully your dedication will inspire him to do the easiest thing in the world he can to be healthy and this is eat right.
Hey Amanda, My mom had diabetes. She did not keep up with everything that the doctor told her to do & in the end she ended up losing 2 two toes & had kidney failure before she eventually died. The disease is horrible. Make sure you find a book or wesite that shows the glycemic index of foods. Make good glycemic choices when you eat. When your blood sugar is stable you are craving food. It will really help you with weight loss.
Laurie and Nepa Girl,
Thank you both for your support and advice, I really appreciate it. I wish you both the best as well. Thank you :)
Hi AmandaFromPA, I know it's hard when you worry about love ones, I'm just grateful that I still have my Dad. I am not diabetic yet but if I don't get moving it won't be long. I'm just going to breath and try fixin' me. I hope if I lead by example, he will come along. I am hoping the best inspiration is my taking action. I also know (as I'm much older than you) that I am only responsible for myself, I can not change anyone who dose not want to change themselves. A lot of Diabetic people are on-line so I know the diet is safe for them. You take care of yourself and have a good day today!
Awe, thank you so much! That means a lot TLCme : ) I appreciate that very much and I am glad to know I am not alone. I've been waiting for my book, trying to exercise, eat better in the mean time. NEED intervention : (
I wish you the very best in this and will definitely stay in touch : )
