This should be of interest to RN's and other medical workers about jobs being hard to get now July, 19, 2009 from the Advance For Nurses June 29,2009 Vol.6 No 11 www.advanceweb.com/nurses On page 5 it says: " Statewide BRN Hears Annual Update On Status of Nursing in Ca By Candy Goulette Even though its members had heard antecdotes, the California Board of Registered Nursing was surprised by the news brought by Joanne Spetz, PhD. Spetz, associate adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing, conducts an annual survey of nurses for the BRN. For the first time in 5 years, the numbers show a lack of jobs, not an immediate shortage of nurses, as California improved from 50th to 45th in the number of nurses per capita. But Spetz was quick to note the shortage will return on the heels of economic recovery, as nurses who cintinued to work or returned to work during the recession decide to retire. While Spetz said nursing jobs are available in California, they are few and far between especially for new grads." "We looked at the number of RNs in the state, employment patterns, graduates, endorsements into the state and those nurses with inactive or lapsed licenses." Spetz said. "We found some of our numbers saw little or no change year to year, and others, such as the number of foreign-trained nurses, declined. More but too many characters. Their limit is 2000 characters.
